Why Biomass?Biomass is material derived from recently living organisms, including plants, animals and their by-products. Biomass is a renewable energy source based on the Carbon Cycle, unlike fossil fuels such as petroleum, coal and nuclear power.
Biomass is considered to be carbon neutral because the quantity of Carbon Dioxide released during combustion is the same as that absorbed by the plant during its life. Carbon in fossil fuels has been locked away for millions of years, and when the carbon is released during combustion, this disrupts CO2 levels in the atmosphere.
Biomass is generally considered to be environmentally sustainable since in many cases it is obtained as a co-product from industries such as agriculture, forestry and sawmilling. Biomass fuel can also be deliberately produced using short rotation coppice (SRC methods).
Biomass Energy can provide:
Heating and Hot Water
Process Hot Water and Steam
Combined Heat and Power (CHP)
Heat, Power and Cooling (Tri-generation).
